Ever since announcing her engagement to Prince Harry, the world’s eyes have been fixed on Meghan Markle — and her style. We’ll be following the Meghan Markle Effect with our column, “Meghan Markle Wore a Thing.”

Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, made her first solo appearance since marrying into the royal family on Tuesday evening to celebrate the opening of “Oceania,” a new exhibit at the Royal Academy of Arts. The exhibition, which features artwork spanning more than 500 years, is the first major survey of Oceanic art held in the U.K. For the occasion, the Duchess chose a Givenchy dress, solidifying the French house as one of her early favorites.

Since she wed in an elegant bespoke Clare Waight Keller gown, the royal has collaborated with the designer again and again: She wore Givenchy to her first solo engagement with the Queen, then to the Royal Ascot and, most recently, on a trip to Dublin. But who can blame her? When Kate Middleton, the Duchess of Cambridge, entrusted Alexander McQueen‘s Creative Director Sarah Burton with designing her royal wedding dress in 2011, she continued to choose ensembles from the British fashion house on a regular basis.
