Sophie Jones: Sheffield United Women forward charged with racist abuse
Sheffield United Girls forward Sophie Jones has been charged by the Football Association with allegedly racially abusing Tottenham’s Renee Hector.
Hector claimed that she “received some monkey noises from an opposition participant” in an FA Girls’s Championship recreation between the teams on 6 January.
Jones, who has till 15 February to answer, has been charged with using abusive or insulting phrases, and it is additional alleged they “incorporated reference to ethnic foundation and/or coloration and/or scurry”.
Sheffield United Girls said they had co-operated absolutely with the FA’s investigation.
“The membership works carefully with the EFL, the FA and Kick it Out and would adore to reiterate that it does no longer condone racism or any fabricate of discrimination,” a membership affirm added.
“Sheffield United is no longer going to comment additional on the subject till the conclusion of the formal FA disciplinary hearing.”
Hector, 23, made the allegations in a social media post after Tottenham had overwhelmed the Blades 2-1, a victory which on the time took them up to second within the desk.
Spurs, who said the alleged incident was reported to the referee by Hector in some unspecified time in the future of the recreation, also reported it to the FA.
