Talks to establish a lasting ceasefire in Libya have resumed in Geneva. It is the latest attempt to forge a political deal between Libya’s internationally recognised government and renegade military commander Khalifa Haftar. But as talks were getting under way, so was shelling.
United Nations human rights chief Michelle Bachelet has called for an immediate end to hostilities in Idlib, saying that the latest Syrian ceasefire has “yet again failed to protect civilians”. “It is deeply distressing that civilians are still being killed on a daily basis in missile strikes from both the air and ground,” Bachelet said…
A ceasefire brokered by Russia and Turkey has come into effect in Syria’s Idlib province. It comes less than 24 hours after at government air raids in and around Idlib resulted in several deaths. The rescue effort is still ongoing, as is the search for survivors. Al Jazeera’s Victoria Gatenby reports.
