This Is Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank’s Royal Wedding Dress Code

Mark your calendars, royal wedding fans—we’re officially one month away from the second major British ceremony this year between Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank. Not to outdo Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, whose royal wedding took place in May, the couple has reportedly requested the presence of 850 guests (that’s 250 more than the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s nuptials). The clock is ticking for guests to rally their most royal wedding-worthy ensembles and, believe it or not, this event is calling for an even stricter dress code than Harry and Meghan’s ceremony.

In a sneak peek of the couple’s wedding stationery, released by Vanity Fair, the bottom right corner reveals in a scrawling black font that male guests must wear a morning coat and women are required to wear a day dress and hat. While the wardrobe protocol for female guests remains the same from Harry and Meghan’s wedding, Eugenie’s dress code actually places a stricter limit on men’s attire. Mailed two months before their May 19 ceremony, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s invites gave males greater flexibility, allowing for a military uniform, morning coat or lounge suit for the ceremony.

So, why the change from one wedding to the next, and what exactly do these outfit suggestions entail? For starters, Brooksbank has not served in the military, meaning he’ll wear a suit on the big day, and guests will be expected to dress accordingly. Prince Harry, on the other hand, opted for his Blues and Royals uniform on his wedding day.

As for the morning coat guideline, this is the traditional wedding look for male guests across the pond, which involves a tailcoat, striped trousers, a waistcoat, tie, and collared shirt. According to Express, Harry and Meghan likely allowed for a slightly more casual lounge suit option to accommodate any American guests unfamiliar with this clothing custom.

We can expect to see female guest looks similar to those debuted at Harry and Meghan’s wedding. Think hats or fascinators galore and plenty of stunning midis or maxis (respectful hemlines only in the presence of royalty). Prominent recent royal wedding looks, like Victoria Beckham’s and Oprah Winfrey’s, will be hard to top, but we have no doubt that Eugenie’s A-list posse will step up to the challenge.

For guests who are still stumped by what to wear to Princess Eugenie and Brooksbank’s October 12 wedding, etiquette expert Myka Meir previously told Town & Country that, “there will be additional guidance for the attendees. Though we will not see it, there will often be an internal document circulated to give them more information about the dress code.”

The couple’s lengthy list of guests will undoubtedly look their best, morning dress and all, but we’re obviously most excited to see what the bride herself may sport down the aisle. After all, Eugenie does have to big shoes to fill following Meghan Markle’s famed wedding day looks. No pressure!
